Tomorrow is World Whisky Day, and while this could be a good excuse to trade in gin for something a bit different… we decided to go another route: to take the beautiful cocktails made for this golden liquor and serve them up with gin instead! Here’s some of the most classic whisky cocktails out there – gin-ified.
Simple, quick and delicious – just like it’s whisky counterpart.

50ml gin (Genever also works very well)
2 dashes Angostura bitters
1 tsp water
1 cube sugar
Method:
Place sugar cube in a heavy-bottomed glass.
Add 2 dashes of bitter and a teaspoon of water, then muddle until sugar dissolves.
Add gin and stir well. Add ice cubes into drink, let sit for a couple of minutes, and enjoy.
A favourite of last August's distillers, Siderit, you won’t be reaching for a Jack and Coke after trying this tipple out.

50ml gin
200ml cola
Citrus zest and/or cinnamon stick, to garnish
Method:
Combine gin and cola in a tall glass with lots of ice. Garnish with cinnamon stick orange zest.
The Mint Julep is a staple in the American South, and this fresh gin version is perfect for summer sipping!

2 tsp sweet sugar syrup*
15 mint leaves
25ml Genever
25ml gin
1 splash soda water
Method:
*To make the sugar syrup, combine two parts sugar and one part water in a saucepan over medium heat until sugar dissolves. Let cool fully before using.
In a Julep cup (or other large glass), muddle together sugar syrup and mint leaves.
Fill glass with crushed ice and add genever and gin.
Top with soda water and stir well to combine.
Serve garnished with a sprig of mint.

40ml gin (Old Tom preferred)
40ml sweet vermouth
1 tsp maraschino liqueur
2 dashes orange bitters
Lemon twist, to garnish
Method:
In a chilled glass, combine all of the ingredients with ice and stir well. Garnish with a twist of lemon and a maraschino cherry, if desired.

The Whisky Sour may be the most iconic cocktail in the sour family, but this gin variation is just as (if not more!) delicious.

50 ml gin
25 ml lemon juice, freshly squeezed
4 tsp sugar syrup
Method:
Add ingredients to a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
Shake vigorously until chilled.
Strain into a chilled coupe glass.
Serve garnished with a lemon zest, if desired.
*Note: some variations of the gin sour may also include egg white.
The weather may be getting warmer, but a good Hot Toddy recipe is a must know – especially when it’s a gin one!

60ml hot water
1 tsp sugar (or honey)
Cinnamon stick, to garnish

In a mug or glass, combine all of the ingredients. Stir well and garnish with cinnamon stick, to serve
