Like all of the Distillerie 3 Lacs products, including their gin, rum and even Distillerie 3 Lacs Limoncello, Distillerie 3 Lacs Lemon Sunflower Gin is distilled by Distillerie 3 Lacs, which was founded by childhood friends Dominic Proulx, Mathieu Caron and Nicolas Bériault.
Inspired by Quebec in summer, a landscape covered in sunflower fields, they chose sunflower seeds as a key botanical ingredient in Distillerie 3 Lacs Lemon Sunflower Gin.
The sunflower seeds not only add a deliciously rich, earthy base to the gin, but their oils also give the spirit a wonderfully smooth, moreish, unique, and utterly exquisite texture.
To counter-balance the sunflower seeds, Dominic, Mathieu and Nicolas use hand-peeled lemons to add uplifting, bright citrus tones to the gin - ones we always associate with summer sunshine.
The lemon peel and sunflower seeds are distilled with a range of other carefully-selected London dry botanicals.
The full Distillerie 3 Lacs Lemon Sunflower Gin botanical list can be found here: sunflower seed, lemon peel, juniper, coriander, peppercorn, long pepper, cassia bark and angelica root.
Once distilled at the Distillerie 3 Lacs microdistillery they are bottled in special glass bottles designed with a triangle in the glass.
The triangle represents the three lakes that surround Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, the distillery’s home, and the reason the gin is called “3 Lacs” (“3 Lakes” in English). They are Lac Saint-Francois, Lac des Deux Montagnes and Lac Saint-Louis.
Distillery 3 Lacs Lemon Sunflower Gin has a delicious pop of citrus on the nose, carrying through to the palate. There, lemon is layered with the taste of classic gin botanicals juniper, coriander and angelica root. Finally, the sunflower seed comes through, lingering long on the exceptionally smooth finish.
Like all of the Distillerie 3 Lacs products including Distillerie 3 Lacs Limoncello, Distillerie 3 Lacs Lemon Sunflower gin is distilled at the Distillerie 3 Lacs distillery in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield in southwestern Quebec, Canada.
