The delicate floral aroma of elderflower wafting in the breeze is a sure sign that spring has taken hold of the British countryside.
The flavours from these tiny white blossoms make a wonderful accompaniment to the botanical notes of gin, and a hint of freshly squeezed lemon juice, with a top-up of prosecco or sparkling wine make this a light and refreshing tipple that’s begging to be drunk on a sunny afternoon!
If you don’t have any elderflower liqueur, you could also substitute it with elderflower cordial. (For those of you who like a little project, we’ve got a simple recipe for homemade elderflower cordial here.)
When you’re feeling in need of a bit of extra sparkle in your drink, try adding some edible gold leaf or flakes, for a really beautiful cocktail that looks deceptively fabulous!
35ml gin
15ml elderflower Syrup
15ml lemon juice
75ml sparkling wine, to top
Lemon wheel and flowers, to garnish
Pour gin, elderflower and lemon juice in a shaker with ice and combine. Strain into champagne flutes and top with chilled prosecco or champagne. Garnish with lemon and serve immediately.
